It's Sunday and not a work day!

“It was love at first sight, at last sight, at ever and ever sight.” Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

I like to watch silly shows with bad acting and even worse cliches.
Television is an awesome thing to have. I love it.

They are more enjoyable if you have your best friend sitting next to you laughing at some of the ridiculousness with you pointing out which characters should fall in love. It's about being transported to another world, and living in a created experience to for a little while. Even if Plato was right and this is useless imitation, I don't care. I don't think it's entirely bad.

A little indulgence in Netflix with a healthy balance of real and meaningful events is GOOD

I think it helps reduce stress by trading off whatever may be worrying you for something more fun. The high school drama of Dawson's Creek or the supernatural excitement of Buffy the Vampire Slayer does this and more. Yes there were more than a few bad/stupid episodes in the beginning seasons of both Buffy and Angel, but just wait they get better. When this happens it will be difficult not to become obsessed, if you're like me.

Also noteworthy is the joy I get from the clothing the gang wears in Buffy.

The popular nineties styles are amazing. The clothing in the above picture is not really what I'm talking about. The outfit below is just great right? Pink overalls with a red cartoonish shirt. Classic Willow :) I've been discussing this too much already. That is all.

Creating Memories to Share

I had an awesome Friday!

My boyfriend and I took my brother Rhettlee (11 yr old) and sister Jolene (15 yr old) to float the river yesterday. There were a few bickering moments caused by obnoxious sounds belonging to Rhettlee, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I wouldn't have been able to deal with this at all if it hadn't been for my boyfriend who tried to lighten us up at times, throwing Rhettlee into the river playfully when he was on his worst behavior. My boyfriend also supplied the voyager we floated on creatively and skilfully. He called it FrankenRaft because it was an old river raft from the 70's riddled with leaks so he cut out the unusable parts, leaving about 3/4 of a raft with lots of life left in her. He's so creative and hardworking.

My little sister had a good time, she's always wanted to float the river and told me "It took you long enough to ask!" when I asked her to join us. The only problems that involved her were those that also involved driving us there. She is trying to get her drivers license, and it is an understatement to say that she is a horrible driver. Our parents just got her a Volvo, so I suggested we take that and as a consequence we were almost hurled onto the freeway divider as Jolene attempted to look behind her which moved the wheel and almost sent us splattering, and cooking quickly thereafter (it was 100 degrees out!).

By the end of the trip she kept saying, "I'm going to say this as politely as possible, please shut up about my driving. Shut up!" I'm told I was a terrible driver when I was 15 too, but it's hard to remember with accuracy that far back. I do remember my older sister reworking a song on the radio in the car while I was driving. She sang, "Mama tried to teach her how to drive, no one could steer me right but Mama tried" a country song that lightened the mood of my frustration at not being a good driver.

Memories like these, however chaotic they are, will last forever.

Jolene and I will forever laugh about Rhettlee licking the sauce out of the Chick Fil A packet after the float, or how she couldn't get back on the raft after taking a quick dip in the river... Family, friends and the ways that we can laugh together will always be hugely important. Experiencing fun things together by including my siblings on an adventure, gives so much awesomeness to my life. The tie between people lies in what they go through together, what they share between them. I am so thankful for all of the shared memories I have with my loved ones.

Break yourself off a piece of happiness ... three things I'm thankful for:

I recently got a good job

A new job that will be challenging and fun. I know this as well as a person can know something about a job they haven't started yet. I so appreciate this opportunity, and the fact you can Google how to ace an interview, which I think made my interview skills grow from microscopic to about the size of mold on bread.

My boyfriend

He's the kind of awesome that most girls only dream of. He cooks us both really tasty vegetarian meals all the time, and he's not even a vegetarian!

My cats

I know, I know. I've seen that crazy cat lady crying about not being able to hug all the stray cats, but I'm not like her at all. I have two cats that are so cute. Animals can be such good friends and teachers.

A positive experience:

Khloe got out of her father's car. She saw me and yelled "Arisa!" as she ran to give me a hug and proceeded to tell me about her experience at her little friends house. Her four year old smile displays a pure state of joy that melted my heart.

You are supposed to do this sort of thing everyday to have a positive attitude. I can do it!
